What's New?

Brides Light Up with New Green Wedding Gown
Fashion designer Rene Geneva of Austin, Texas, is the latest to enter the field of sustainable wedding gown design.  Her creations, seen at MyCorset.com, are stylish, sexy, and sustainable.

Designer Geneva believes in high standards of business practices, including fair wages and sustainable textiles. Her fresh designs offer exciting new options to environmentally and fashion conscious brides.  Geneva's eco-friendly "light up" wedding gown is really special. Sewn from 100% SBP (sustainable biodegradable product) rated hemp/silk, the dress has a train made from Luminex fiber optic woven fabric that appears to twinkle when lit. Talk about shining on your wedding day!

Geneva's entire clothing line is far from the typical earth friendly apparel currently available. In the words of Dominique Bertrand, owner of Mechanical Bunny Clothing, "Its very exotic. Think Madonna meets National Geographic."

Diamond Industry Braces for Blood Diamond Movie
Although not scheduled for release until 2007, the movie Blood Diamond starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connolly is already creating a stir. MSNBC reports that the U.S. jewelry industry "is gearing up to counter any negative effects from the upcoming film The Blood Diamond, which shows how illicit gem trade fueled bloody civil wars." The International Gemological Institute has issued a statement to "dispel consumer fears regarding the origin of their diamonds." Read what Beth Gerstein, co-founder of Brilliant Earth, has to say on this topic in her article on conflict free diamonds in this issue of our newsletter.

New Fair Trade Items Suitable for Bridesmaid Gifts
A new line of products has been introduced by Global Girlfriend, an online marketplace supporting women’s human rights worldwide. New items include an exclusive line of beaded and silver jewelry from designer Amy Kahn and KABW, a women's cooperative in Nepal that uses traditional Nepalese skills to create much needed employment and income for impoverished women and their families. Another key item in this season’s collection is a 100% organic cotton clothing line made by women at Assisi Garments, a fair trade organization started by the Assisi order of nuns in southern India.

Coming Soon...Carbon Neutral Green Green Tea
On July 1st, a new tea will be introduced that has been described as "the first ever food and drink product to save the world thanks to its carbon neutral promise." The fact that it tastes good and has all the reported health benefits of green tea might be enough for most people. But the Today Was Fun label's new Green Green Tea has also won the honor of Best New Organic Product of 2006, and because it has been made carbon neutral in association with the Carbon Neutral Company the tea is actually "double green."
